Born and bred in the Lake District and started riding in 2013 due to my competition pony injuring himself and I needed something to fill the year whilst he healed.
I have a genetic condition called joint hypermobility and have found that cycling has enabled me to be stronger and more mobile than ever before.
I raced the Scottish downhill series in 2014 leading to selection for the Scottish Downhill Academy to support my development.
In 2015 I raced both the British Downhill series and the Scottish series. I won the overall series Senior Women title at the Scottish Downhill Series, was 4th overall in the BDS and ended the year as No.1 ranked senior women in downhill in the British Cycling national points.
2016 saw a move to enduro. I was 3rd in round 1 of the British Enduro Series, then 2nd at the Northern Enduro Champs behind elite racer Claire Bennett. I then focused on passing my British Cycling MTB leadership award – which was a fantastic experience. I then went off to France, on my honeymoon, to race the Trans Savoie. It’s a 6 day Enduro race, 370km, pedalling 12000m of elevation and descending more than 25000 in the Alps.
Now, things are currently on pause waiting for the arrival of my mini me in less than 3 months!
Poem: There’s A Place 12
By Rachel Elizabeth - @rachelizzab3th
There’s a place, my homeland, my bike – my soul delights! The heart leaps with visions of earth, sky and wandering wild air to be soon in my sight. My bikes on my back, my feet hunt for grip on the slate, The descent is earned here, quick step don’t be late.
